Founder & Vet

“Whenever I care for a horse, I'm joining a team that includes the owner, the farrier, and any other paraprofessionals involved in their care.” – GR

Gil qualified in 1990 from University College Dublin and gained experience in general practice in his native Northern Ireland and then Wales. Keen for a more permanent role and seeking a partnership, he took up a position at Pool House Vets in Staffordshire in 1997. In 2000 he joined the partnership, and the practice grew into separate small animal and equine hospitals. From there, Gil became a fundamental part of the partnership, and developed his specialism in poor performance presentations.

In 2003 Gil gained the Certificate in Equine Practice but is probably best known for being awarded the Petplan Equine Vet of the Year award in 2009. He is an examiner for the Worshipful Company of Farriers, and regularly writes for national horse magazines such as Horse and Hound, and provides expert veterinary advice to Petplan insurance.

In his spare time, he ferries his two teenage children to various sporting or social events, and whenever time allows, runs the local Parkrun and referees youth football.  He recently walked the length of Hadrian’s Wall, a total of 86 miles in five days!
